New license: “What Did You Eat Yesterday?”
Vertical Inc. has licensed Fumi Yoshinaga’s What Did You Eat Yesterday? (Kinou Nani Tabeta?). Although I wouldn’t technically classify this as “BL,” it is a charming series featuring a gay couple written by the one and only Fumi Yoshinaga (Antique Bakery, Lovers in the Night, Ichigenme… The First Class is Civil Law).
The manga revolves around Shirō Kakei, a methodical lawyer, and his lover Kenji Yabuki, a sociable hairstylist. The manga tells the story of their everyday lives together in their apartment through their cooking and eating habits. The series also provides recipes and cooking tips for the food featured in each chapter. Currently serialized in Kodansha’s Morning magazine (home of Vagabond, Chi’s Sweet Home and other awesome seinen comics series), Kinou Nani Tabeta? has also been nominated for several Japanese manga industry awards, including the Manga Taisho Awards (Cartoon Grand Prize) in 2008, and Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2009.
The first volume will be out in March 2014, and new volumes of this ongoing 7-volume series will be released every 2 months until it catches up with the Japanese releases.
